About Sunflower Children
My name is Helena, founder and president of the Sunflower Children’s Foundation. Since 1997 I have been working with orphans and deaf children in my home of the Czech Republic. As a fashion model, I’ve had the opportunity to meet a lot of interesting and caring people. While on my travels many people were very interested in helping or doing something for children, but were unsure of how to get involved. I realized that I had a great opportunity to connect these two worlds in which I live and work. People with the means to help disadvantaged children around the world who desperately need our support. And that is how the Sunflower Children came to be. According to the National Institute For Literacy, 113 million children around the world have no access to primary education. This number continues to grow, but we are trying to change its direction one child, one school, and one community at a time. The lack of education and opportunity for education is a global issue, which needs tremendous support today and in years to come. I know it is not easy to change the world, but I believe that if you change one life, you can change the whole world.

Sunflower believes that education is the key to a better life for disadvantaged children. Accordingly, Sunflower focuses on providing vital support – including healthcare, nutritional and other basic needs – that enable children in Sunflower Project communities to pursue educational growth.
WHO WE ARE
Sunflower Children (dba of Sunflower Non Profit Foundation) is a 501 (c) 3 CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION, all donations are tax deductible.
Sunflower Children is a family of local high quality non profit organizations. We strive to help children around the world overcome the burdens of poverty, disease or disability to become healthy, educated, self sustaining, and contributing members of society.
WHAT WE DO
We help the poorest areas of the planet raise enough funds for educational projects, such as:
- Building and managing schools and tutoring centers
- Medical treatment and support that will enable a disadvantaged child to attend school
- Nutritional support
- Support of individual children with scholarships, school supllies, uniforms, etc.
- Afterschool activities focusing on the child’s individual personal growth
- Summer educational camps
- Weekend stays
We focus on projects that value the individuality of each child and his/her personal growth and needs. But our outreach is not just limited to individuals. We believe that to insure real and lasting changes in each location, we must involve the entire community. We need them to participate, because the success of these projects will require their involvement.
We follow rules to uphold Sunflower’s standards:
- The quality of the project we intend to assist
We support educational projects which focus on working with:
- Children with disabilities (physically, sensually, and mentally)
- Children infected and/or affected by HIV/AIDS
- Street children
- Children living in poor conditions (malnutrition, neglect, etc.)
We support all children regardless of their religion, gender, race, or ethnicity.
